That IS nice

It's actually a lot better than your other submissions, except maybe for "Tropical April". The form of the bird is stylized, but the details are filled with naturalistic precision.

Actually, at first I thought that the leaf below its beak was the lower part of its beak. I wish it was - I think the composition would be stronger.

Dragonette489 responds:

pretty much the darkest area is his beak, about an inch down at his chest was a dark leaf.. but thank you, i know most of my stuff is pretty crappy compared to this one lol, i'll be adding more soon :)

Great sci-fi composition

I love it. My only real criticism is that the bottom part of the space station is a little to the left of where it should be. It's not a serious thing, though.

Excellent!

So far, I like this one best of all from your digital pieces. The colours, shapes and composition are very harmonious here.

Somehow, it feels like there should be some kind of fancy gold lettering in the centre circle. This would make a great poster for an event.

vexistential responds:

It's so cool that you scouted me, since we seem to have extremely opposite tastes, at least pertaining to my own art. :P
Meaning: This is actually one of my least favorite pieces that I've posted here.
In fact, the only reason I didn't flat out delete it is because the girl watching me create it loved it...and the only reason I put it here is because I was suffering from a lack of new pieces.
I was actually planning on deleting it when I had something new, but I have been trying to only delete the ones that don't get any reviews after an extended period of time...so you saved it. :P

It's great

It reminds me of Native American artwork, somehow.

I think you should upload a higher-resolution version of this image. It's currently a bit small.

Beautiful

Amazing technique. Did you sketch it out with light blue pencil before going over it with pen?

Although it seems to be slightly Japanese-inspired, this drawing actually reminds me of the Belarusian animation "Forest Tales". Check it out if you haven't seen it (on Youtube or Google Video)

datamouth responds:

omg. that video was amazing. when i saw the little guy sitting next to the shell with the leaf on top made me smile. it's awesome. thanks so much for the video link!

i sketched it out with a regular #2 pencil. i did it at work where i have no art supplies but plenty of time to doodle. lol.

thanks again!

great pixel art

I LOVE how you're making the best of the unconventional tools you've chosen to use. Pixel art is one of my favourite contemporary art styles, but it's rare to see it done on such a large scale - yet you're doing it and doing it well, because I guess nobody told you that you're not supposed to. ;)

And you say that you're making an entire comic series in this art style? That this isn't just the title page? Amazing. I hope to see more of it.

This image does require a bit more work - i.e. the floor that he's standing on is a bit rough. Still, it's already very good.

StarwolfTsuname responds:

No, I was not told about not doing unconventional art on a large scale XD Also thank you very much for the comment! Well, currently its a pencil comic on printer paper which really isnt turning out so bad, soon I will submit the two pages I have already here on NG but maybe every so often I will change my media and use ms paint to do a page for kicks :3

Yes the floor definitely needs so work, I do agree, thanks for the critique! :D

Wobbliness

The slightly wobbly lines are actually attractive to me - too much perfection is not good. The thing that I think should be improved is that your paintings tend to look better from far away than from up close - the closer you look, the more obvious it is that the details are a bit rough, the colours a little splotchy. Fine-tuning the edges would make a big difference - on the other hand it would also take up a lot of time, and I can understand why you might prefer to move on to a new painting instead.

You continue to have a great sense of balance for shapes and colours, and this is really a very good work.

Quite nice!

Bold shapes, and colorful - just the thing for pixel art. I really the gradations of colour on the red part and the light highlights on the tentacles. The Color gradations on the top part are a bit sudden, though.

hah

There's a peculiar disdain on Newgrounds for life drawing - I guarantee you that if this had been done digitally, with some bright colours and with a "punchy, modern style" (which is quite easy, really), the rating would've been much higher and nobody would've complained about the anatomy errors.

As it is, it's true that this kind of stuff isn't popular and it's also true that the proportions are off. But this is one of the most important things that you can work on to develop as an artist, and you're moving in a good direction here. The forearm probably needs the most work.

drawing people

This is actually one of my least favourite of your works, though I quite like the concept. The snowy futuristic city looks quite nice, though some of the painted elements don't seem to mesh if I zoom-in. The trouble is the drawing of the girl - first of all, the body proportions are very off. The part of the arm that's reaching out is too long after the elbow, the bulge for the left knee is way too high up in her cloak, and the location of the waist is unclear. Also, her face is a poorly-done imitation of a typical manga face, with a triangular eye, jagged nose and non-existent chin. This is obviously a weak spot that you have, and since you're so strong in many other areas (colour, composition), I think it's one that you should focus on. Try drawing people from real life, not just copying manga drawings, and you'll be able to develop your own ways of drawing them...

Feel free to PM me if you want to see the scores to any of my music.
