So...

...all I have to do to get perfect scores and ratings is to paint some bloody unoriginal Mario joke? Oh, this is Newgrounds all right.

Ok, kudos for using ArtRage. I love that program. But seriously, this is simple and pretty unoriginal, both from a technical and from a conceptual standpoint. I've seen some great Mario paintings, that have a truly novel and original take on the concept. This is not one them.

Pretty neat!

Your skill with the Etch-a-Sketch is remarkable. Are you good with other types of drawing, also, or do you feel most comfortable in this medium?

I compared it to the original painting by fstarno, by the way. I can see the similarity, but there are enough differences that it seems more "inspired by" than an outright copy ("outright copy" would be bad, because that painting wasn't released under a free license).

Pianosketcher responds:

lol I wouldn't consider it an outright copy since its on an etch-a-sketch.
and no, I use original mediums most of the time. but when I'm bored I do this.
yeah it has alot of diffrences. if it was the exact copy that would be epic.

This one's pretty interesting

It makes me think that there's an interesting story behind it, actually. Broken-down buildings, cracked pavements, weird old statues... reminds me of Eastern Europe in the 1990s.

The quality of the scan isn't that great, but it's better than your other submissions (most of which are far too small).

Hah, this is nice

Tea would be lovely, yes. I love the combination of top-hat, monocle, goatee and T-Rex. He has a great twinkle in his eye, too.

TheMagicStuff24 responds:

Why Thank you.
He was my first few drawing I usually drew out.
I feel the mustache tho completes it for I would love tea with a gent w/ a Mustache.
The Twinkle I actually picked up from a fellow artistic friend whom drew a character he claimed was Lumpkins? and he had that certain twinkle and I developed off said twinkle.

Thanks for the Review :D

That's just wonderful

It must have taken ages to finish that. It's a very striking image. I particularly like how you drew all of the internal organs of the fish.

The hair is quite beautiful

- excellent colours. But the eyes, unfortunately, are drawn a bit clumsily. The nose is a bit too thick... You obviously have much greater skill with real materials, so far, than with a tablet. As it is, this is a striking composition with a slightly bungled main focus point.

thetoughfairy responds:

thanks for your review, i haven't been using my graphics tablet very long, and this is only my second peice using GIMP so I'm still getting used to using it. I like being experimental with my art, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Quite beautiful

Very interesting image. I love the colours on this one.

I love it

The expression in his eyes is just great. And you chose a great background.

Jarvid responds:

I made a great background

Nice!

Very interesting caricatures. I love this style of drawing.

I'm not sure why exactly you're getting so many negative votes. Possibly because you used half of a racial slur in the image?

It really IS fantastic

Made in a naturalistic style, yet it also has these wonderful elements of stylization, on the otter's fur especially, but also in the water, that give it a real striking distinction. Could you please explain your technique a little? I'm curious, was it made with white pencil on black paper? If so, did you create a "rough drawing" first?

This work stands head and shoulders above everything else that you've submitted. "Cardinal in the Brush" comes closest (it is also quite good, although not as interesting), but the other ones almost seem like they were done by someone else entirely.

Little-Eise responds:

Thanks for the review and for favoriting my work. I would be glad to answer your questions.

Yes, I did make this on black paper with a white color pencil. I did not, however, make a rough sketch beforehand. My technique was fairly simply: I drew what I saw on the reference sheet that my teacher gave to me. Since you seem to want an more in depth explanation, I'll give one to you. To get the proportions correct, I started out with a light outline of the otter and fish. From there I really had no distinct process; I worked on the otter for a bit, and then switched over to the fish when the fur became too tedious to work on. I did that for about an hour a day for around three weeks in class, and while sixteen to seventeen hours of work isn't a massive amount of time, it is still a good amount more than what I put into some of my other pieces.

Feel free to PM me if you want to see the scores to any of my music.
