Another excellent flash! Your drawing skills have definitely improved from your previous works; the proportions are better and everything here looks great. The humour isn't too bad either, although it would have been more fun if we'd seen the inventor go through a few designs before he settles on a final one. The animation went well with the music, too.

Topdrawer responds:

Thanks, Esn! You are absolutely right, this cartoon would be much better if the character was shown trying several of his contraptions before the concluding gag. As a matter of fact, that's how the piece was planned and storyboarded, but in order to meet the deadline of a festival competition I entered, I did this abreviated version. When time permits, I will revise it and make the improvement you suggested.

Underdog?

This is a collection of movies that, had they been submitted individually, would have all been blammed.

And yet it has a rating of 2.13/5, and has the title of "Underdog".

Something very fishy is going on here...

UglyBastard responds:

Nothing fishy.

First, the movies in this collection (the older ones), that were in the DailyToons series, weren't submitted individually, they were just part of one, most DailyToon movies mainly had more than one in it.

Second, it got underdog because the overall review average was high and the main score was low. (It could also get underdog by a high score and a low review average, too) :P

It was at about in the 2.4-2.5 range before it got the underdog award, and I must say it dropped dramatically since then. :(

So, it wasn't originally 2.13. :P

A solid 6

You have some great animation there, and it is indeed loud and scary. BUT PLEASE, I BEG YOU, STOP THE SCREEN FROM FLASHING ALL THE TIME!!! One can get a seizure from watching that! If it hadn't been doing that, my score would have been higher.

Maybe it would be better to have to screen FADE from red to black instead of FLASH from red to black!

ZekeySpaceyLizard responds:

Heheh.

Very good

And I'm one of the people who didn't much like the last one!

This one was great, though; the humour was spot-on, the photoshop work was great (thankfully! Bad photoshop work on purpose like in the last episode is just not funny to me), and the narrating rocked.

Great last joke, BTW. :D For those who don't understand it, read some of the comments to the first movie, you'll catch on very quickly. :P

7.5/10

Dustball responds:

Glad I was able to rein you in this time!

Comments:

I think that the character graphics could be better, especially in close-ups; it's good in medium/far shots, but close up they look rushed.

Humour is pretty good, and I liked the "beep" that you have each time somebody swears. However, you can still hear the swear word during the beep! It's just not as funny that way. I demand authenticity! :P

Overall, I think you have a good thing going here; a character winning a fight through his own inneptness. :)

Weirdo responds:

Godd stuff, good stuff. I gotta copy and paste this in my story board. Thanks for the crituiqes!

I'm sorry, but I have to agree

There are some humourous parts in the flash, but on the whole it's really nothing special. I don't really see why so many people here like it.

The graphics, for one thing, are very messy and almost completely unpolished (frankly, they stink. I can't believe that this was your "major animation" for animation class! What school/university/college/institute was it?). The humour was spot-on at times (such as the evil knight's voice and the piggy scene) but mostly it was tired cliches and insulting to my intelligence.

I WOULD like to see a sequel nevertheless, but please, put more effort into it. I'm as amazed as you are at why this has such a high score. :p

Skruggs responds:

I'm glad to have insulted you... tard

That was great!

The music was perfect, although I noticed at the very end that it was repeating itself. The storyboarding of the flash was also perfect, although the executions could have been better. What I mean is, you have to work on doing more realistic-looking splashes and movements!

I really liked the humour in it, esp. the end where you show the bottom of the lake and we find out why the goblins were so mad at him!

Get-lost responds:

Alright. Thanks =)

Very good

The storyboarding was excellent; I loved how the scenes corresponded to the dong so beautifully. Also, the art was pretty good. A thing about the art, though; I wish you'd work a little more on giving your animations a FINISHED look. As it is, there are effects in the flash the don't seem to go with the general feel of the flash, your perspectives are often wrong (ex. the can rolling on the pavement), and people also don't look finished; they just don't look the shape of an actual realistic human. There seem to be a mash of different styles, even in the way that you draw one particular person, that don't flow together very well. Which is a shame, because as I said the editing is great and I think you're certainly CAPABLE of drawing better; there are a few scenes in the flash where it looks very finished and stylized.

AloneInTheDark responds:

Thanks. Hmm yeah, maybe i could have drawn the characters more detailed at some points, but the more detailed you make something, the harder it becomes to animate. The organic, dynamic style was something very important for me in this one

Make more stereoscope movies!

Pretty please? Going through tunnels in stereoscope is very, very cool!

Just a question:

how do you do it exactly? Is there some kind of special way to do it in flash?

TmsT responds:

Yeah.
First, you turn the animated section that you want to make 3D into one multi-layer, multi-frame object.

Second, you duplicate it.

Third, you place the object and its duplicate side by side - left and right.

Fourth, you edit the duplicate, changing the objects in it so that they are slightly offset to the left or right, depending on how far you want them to appear in the foreground/background.

A few questions...

Who's the guy who seperated them, & what state is this university in?

Anyway, this is great, even if I didn't understand all the in-jokes. Especially loved the "you don't need to be rich" part.

TmsT responds:

He's John The Security Guy.
The state of the university is "mostly solid", the province is Canterbury, and the country is New Zealand.

Feel free to PM me if you want to see the scores to any of my music.
