That was really good

I don't really know what to say, except I liked it. A very effective piece. Good use of chromaticism.

Is it played on the computer, though? I'm not sure how possible it would be to play it in real life... some of those repeated notes are quite fast.

Beacon515L responds:

Yes, this was played in my sequencer... XD I'm cheap!
Thanks for reviewing!

I agree with MaestroRage

These are definitely not the good guys. Perhaps they are wearing the colours of the good guys, but they are clearly malevolent.

There ARE some arabic elements in this, but there is also a medieval stream running through it. It works fairly well as a loop. The only thing is, it gets a little tiring listening to it. Maybe if you had a short section where it gets quieter for a bit, just for some variety...

Generally, it's quiet effective, though.

Yes, this is quite classical.

It reminds me vaguely of Mozart, for some reason; both the harmonies and the abundance of notes in the melody line are reminiscent of the era.

It's nice to see a real "classical era" piece in the classical section.

MusicalRocky responds:

Hey!

Sorry I haven't been on this page in a while. Yeah it's similar to mozart definitely--mostly his Symphony no.25.

Yeah there's not enough classical pieces on here lol.

Thanks for the review!

This is great

And really, I typically despise trance music. However, this one was just full of great things. I loved the variety, and I loved the instruments and harmonies. I also quite liked that sudden volume change near the end.

Into my "favorites" this goes. ;)

You're right.

It is very relaxing. It's also well-structured.

I like how it just keep on going with the same chords playing in the background. It makes it have a timeless feel, yet it moves forward at a good pace.

I can't really think of any suggestions for this one. I'm not sure why it had such a low score before I voted for it (1.69, now it's 3.11).

Good song

I think it has the low score because of the unfeeling way in which the computer plays it. Some competent live players would make it sound much better.

It's a fine little piece, and I look forward to seeing how you use it.

Just about perfect.

When I last went to your page here on Newgrounds, 2007 had not yet arrived. Am I ever glad I remembered to come back here!

This is just a wonderful piece. The melodies are great, the harmonies complement them extremely well, and the accents are hit very well. I have no idea how you manage to do it with GPO... is there any way to get such humanlike playback with Finale 2007 (which has a reduced GPO)?

I'm not quite sure why I'm giving a "9" instead of a "10"... for some reason, I feel that the piece is extremely good, but not quite a perfect 10. It doesn't quite grab me the way some of your pieces do. Sorry about being a bit vague. It might have to do with a slight lack of variety, though perhaps that was unavoidable.

Oh, and yes, I would love to have the score. Please send me an email at i_esn_i (at) yahoo.ca

Well...

I really loved the melodies. The simpleness of using just a marimba for most of piece really worked most of the time.

I somehow felt that somewhere around the half-way point it should have... become more expansive, I guess. It didn't, so it felt to me like the piece didn't really try to go anywhere.

Also, the piano texture didn't really sound very nice with the marimba here, in contrast to the other instruments - maybe adding another marimba might have been better.

But as I said, I really do love your melodies. My score is a mix between the first part which I quite liked, and the second part which I felt should have been a little more than it was.

Check out some of my pieces, by the way. I use marimba a lot. :)

Shows promise

The good bits - I like your long progressions (an ability to think in phrases is always a good thing), and some of your melodies. Unfortunately, it's obvious that you're just beginning to do this, since the piece is rather simple. This isn't a bad thing, though; everyone starts somewhere.

One thing I'd definitely suggest is using better instrumental sounds. I'm not sure what you use now, but the piece sounds very harsh, and that makes it somewhat difficult to listen to or use in a flash.

Grimzag responds:

Yeah, I've just been using the human playback function from Finale's Print Music. It has a bit of a mechanical sound. I've been trying to adapt my writing style to it.

Honestly, it's fairly good.

I'm a bit surprised at the low score that it has - it's a minimalist piece to be sure, but it sounds pleasant enough and I can imagine it being usefull to someone in some flash. It's very simplicity makes it kinda nice to listen to.

Later on there are some dissonances - maybe a bit too many of them. I can tell that this isn't your usual category, but it's pretty nice, overall.

Nynety-Nyne responds:

Cheers, yeah It was pary of another song but then i thought it'd be pretty good on its own.

I wanted to add another level to it so put a choir on it, and that was abit crap, and some notes didn't really fit.

Thanks for your review.

Feel free to PM me if you want to see the scores to any of my music.
